Overview:

ukactive has a strong events programme which includes its flagship events- The Flame Conference & Awards and National Summit as well as many other nationwide wide events such as Active Training Conference & Awards, Sweat, ActiveLab, Strategic Partner Group events, the CEO Forum and Future Leaders. Underneath our flagship events sits a rolling programme of "Network" events that bring specific groups of members or stakeholders together to share, engage and deliberate on the major issues facing the sector. This programme is not static, is driven by entrepreneurial ambition and a clear opportunity to extract ever more impact from it. Our Events portfolio enables us to  expand our reach and deepen our engagement with our members and partners, strengthen the identity & integrity of ukactive. Therefore it is essential that they portray us in the most professional light possible, deliver outstanding service to members and partners and provide platforms that serve to deepen engagement and generate significant  commercial return, essential to the success of ukactive's wider mission to improve the health of the nation.

The purpose of this role is to define, develop and deliver successfully the long term strategic plan for the ukactive Events programme, with the aim of securing sustainable income for the organisation through delivering world class services to members and partners.

Reporting to the Operations Director, the role is focused on the development, commercialisation and ensure the successful delivery of the current Events programme, creating opportunities and delivering the organisation's growth strategy and vision. The role holder will assure the confident delivery of the current programme and begin to highlight areas for improvement and play a significant role in future product development to widen ukactive' s reach meeting the needs of the ever broadening ukactive membership base and creating new revenue streams for the organisation.

You will be an experienced Events professional skilled at developing new events and leading & overseeing the operational management of events through a number of teams. You will thrive on working on your own initiative, leading and shaping a vision to create a unique and best in class Events portfolio for ukactive through the delivery of a wide ranging set of events.

Overview of the role

  • Define the vision and long term strategy for the events function of the business and build support for it both internally and externally
  • Successfully delier a year round "always on" events programme
  • Providing new business opportunities for the organisation
  • Provide a professional events service to deliver the organisation's strategy, enabling latest developments and research to be communicated within a professional platform
  • Develop, foster and lead a high performing team who are responsible for organising 5 major flagship events per year and up to 20 network events, delivered on time within budget that meet and exceed expectations
  • Deliver achievement of the KPI's set for the events department
  • Lead on the production and delivery of projects from proposal right up to delivery
  • Represent the organisation at external events and forums as a key influencer contributing to new business opportunities
  • Work cross departmentally providing solutions and to contribute to raising the visibility of the organisation and creating impact via the events programme
  • Proactively train, appraise and motivate the Events team to encourage continual development

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Accountable for the events budget P&L achievement
  • Accountable for the delivery of each event - taking on whatever necessary corrective action is required to ensure the event is delivered on budget and on time
  • Accountable for the management of events personnel
  • Accountable for use/implementation of management & CRM systems
  • Accountable for the formulation and delivery of the events strategy

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining the ukactive vision and mission across all events.
  • Responsible for conceptualising, instigating and project managing all event programmes at ukactive from start to finish, setting up and managing all project documentation and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Responsible for all project budgets from inception to completion
  • Responsible for monitoring other events - how we can interact beyond our programme and improve our offer.
  • Responsible for obtaining and using up to data market intelligence to identify emerging development opportunities.
  • Responsible for cascading the information for all events to relevant personnel.

 

Key skills and experience

  • Demonstrable experience in leading matrixed teams drawing in specialist talent from across an organisation rather than running a self contained unit
  • Proven experience producing, managing and delivering events from start to finish
  • Prior experience as Head of Events position & leading a team
  • Demonstrable experience in Program Management/ Project management
  • Demonstrable experience in working with Booking & CRM systems
  • Experience in managing the delivery of events through external agencies

  • Ability to influence and to build rapport and get engagement from staff / customers at all levels
  • Ability to use initiative in challenging circumstances
  • Analytical skills to assess the success of each event
  • Proven track record of delivering against challenging measurable outcomes and overcoming obstacles
