Position overview

ukactive Research Institute aims to bridge the evidence gap between tradition laboratory 'exercise is medicine' research and real world interventions. Engagement with Physical activity sector to encourage best practice in data capture, management and dissemination, to ensure greater public and policy maker confidence in physical activity interventions and programing, forms a key strand of this.

As Head of Research & Insight Delivery reporting to Public Affairs Director you will be responsible for delivery of all Research and Insight projects for ukactive from proposal to final report presentation. For this purpose, you will work alongside a team of ukactive (Academia) Associates group for Research strategy & design and will lead on a Research delivery team to provide accurate data, insights, reports and analysis.

You will proactively manage new and existing client accounts and the team itself ensuring the highest standard of data and reporting to clients. You must be comfortable analysing and interpreting both quantitative and qualitative outputs, and relating them to the needs of ukactive members.

Effective management and development of client accounts, presenting to senior stakeholders, team leadership and networking will all rely on your excellent commercial skills, and whilst direct Physical Activity Sector experience is not mandatory, a keen interest in this sector is.

You will provide robust and consistent data and analyses that can be used to support activities, including government relations, business development, organisational strategy, and wider public relations. You will also lead on and deliver ukactive' s internal operational insight, staff surveys, customer profiling etc.

Other responsibilities will be to keep up-to-date on consumer research in physical activity and fitness habits from a variety of sources and communicate these internally.

 

Key responsibilities:

Collaborate with Public Affairs Director in development of research strategy and lead on budgetary responsibility and garnering support from with ukactive (Academia) Associate group. And ensure there is fit for purpose Research strategy in place with Client Services team.

Be responsible for project delivery across all research projects. This will include responsibility for data collation, analysis, and reporting, and ensuring data collection / collation is completed in a robust and timely fashion. Overall responsibility for the production and publication of academic articles, major policy reports / insight documents, and other strategically relevant reports.  

 

Ensure project management practices are maintained across all research projects. It is anticipated that this would include:

Full project plans and management strategies in place for all ukactive research projects and programmes, in line with overall project management strategy

Risk registers clearly outline strategies to address any risks and issues, and mitigating strategies to address them

All key projects, events and campaigns have structured After Action Reviews to review lessons and document appropriately

Responsible for the creation of business development opportunities for the Research Institute and ukactive more broadly. This will include communicating services externally, holding meeting with potential clients, and creating follow-up proposals

Ensure that the Research Institute delivery team is placed to capitalise on new opportunities and secure new projects that support the organisation mission and vision

Build and develop the ukactive Research team, have ready resource plans for future growth of Research Institute and line manage & mentor ukactive Research team.

Contribution to wider work of ukactive:

Monitoring and maintaining relationships with key clients

Monitoring of research and government policies that could affect stakeholders, the organisation, or present opportunities for development

Supporting ukactive campaigns

Delivery of research and evaluation plans that meet the expectations of all partners and stakeholders

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

Education, Skills & Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree at 2:1 or above is essential and demonstrate achievement at undergraduate level in relation to research and knowledge pertinent to the role. A Master's degree and/or PhD will be advantageous though not mandatory.
  • Proven data analysis background with a detailed knowledge of analytical techniques and experience of tuning data into relevant and actionable insight
  • Commercial data and analysis experience
  • Understanding of Public Health and Policy landscape and understanding / experience in physical activity sector and/ or keen interest in the Physical Activity Sector
  • Experienced in developing case studies of own work
  • Highly proficient in advanced analytics and data visualisation tools and packages
  • Demonstrated ability in working on multiple projects/clients
  • Experience in leading medium to large analysis projects end-to-end
  • Confident in own ability to present and workshop ideas and concepts with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong organisation, planning and multitasking skills
  • High attention to detail and care to deliver accurate and well-presented work
  • Great interpersonal skills to effectively drive solution development with internal and external stakeholders
  • A team player with a good level of independence
  • Enthusiastic and practical with a positive "can do" attitude
