Rounding off a bumper week of media activity (following the NHS Healthy Towns coverage), on Thursday ukactive contributed to a frontpage story in The Times outlining the extend of the nation’s physical activity crisis as Public Health England launched its new Active 10 app – part of its ongoing One You campaign aimed at those aged 40-60 years old.

ukactive CEO Steven Ward was quoted, noting that tackling the physical inactivity crisis “will be a marathon rather than a sprint, so brisk walking is an excellent starting point for engaging inactive people.” Again, the story sparked significant interest in the broadcast media, with ukactive Head of Communications Jak Phillips fielding a follow-up interview on Talk Radio with Paul Ross and ex-Number 10 Comms Chief Katie Perrior.

Later, Public Affairs Director Huw Edwards headed over to the Sky News studios for a live interview in which he reiterated ukactive’s policy objective for Government to expand the Cycle to Work scheme to include fitness products and gym passes. He added that partnerships are key to making physical activity the beating heart of our communities and called on the public to get involved with National Fitness Day on 27th September, when a range of partners will come together to get one million people active through thousands of free fitness events across the UK.
