National Fitness Day to be 'bigger and better' in 2015 as ukactive plans most active day of the year

Today the campaign for National Fitness Day was unveiled to the physical activity sector by ukactive who are pledging to make September 9th the most active day of the year.

ukactive will mark the announcement by sending an information  pack to its members to help them  prepare and engage with the day at a local level. This will be followed up with a free ukactive National Fitness Day promotional tool-kit for all operators taking part.

National Fitness Day 2015 will build upon the success of last year, where nearly 2,000 venues opened their doors to run free 'Power-Half-Hour' exercise sessions to showcase what they are great at, reaching 27 million people.

This year ukactive - the leading not-for-profit health body for the physical activity sector - will be working with members,  charities, school, businesses,  non-members and Members of Parliament alike to help make National Fitness Day the most active day of the year.  This is a day which brings everyone together, not only those within our sector but anyone who has an interest in getting more people more active more often. By working with all these different stakeholders ukactive aims to get as many members of the public involved in the most active day of the year as possible.

Steve Ward, Executive Director, ukactive said: "There is nothing more important to the sector than celebrating the fun of fitness and engaging the public. This years' National Fitness Day will be bigger and better than ever; we're going to work with more groups,  make another splash in the headlines and across social media, all in the name of shouting about what our sector does every day - supporting people to get active and enjoy fitness. That is why we are reaching out to everyone in our industry to get involved in whatever way they can to help us make it the most active day of the year."

At the heart of ukactive's approach to National Fitness Day 2015 is working with its' members and supporting them to generate interest in the work they do, as well as reaching out to new partners to create further opportunities for the sector.

ukactive Chair, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson said: "National Fitness Day is a date in the calendar when everyone involved in getting people physically active come together to not only show what we can do, but also to encourage more and more people to get moving. Last year ukactive delivered a truly impressive day of physical activity and this year I'm excited to be involved in my new role as Chair in what is going to be an even bigger and better day on September 9th 2015."

With several months to go until the day itself, ukactive is planning to unveil its plans for live events, ambassadors and brand partners in due course.
