Crossbench Peer Tanni Grey-Thompson was today announced as the new independent Chair of not-for-profit health body ukactive.

Baroness Grey-Thompson will turn her seasoned campaigning voice to the crucial issue of turning the tide of physical inactivity over the coming years and ensure that the next government turns rhetoric into action on the inactivity crisis.

“Stop focusing on surgery and start prioritising physical activity,” says Health Select Committee report, echoing ukactive’s calls ahead of General Election.

A Health Select Committee report released today calls for physical activity to be considered a priority in its own right, ahead of the separate issue of obesity. The report criticises the “unacceptable” NHS spending on bariatric surgery which far outweighs money spent on a national roll-out of physical activity and intensive lifestyle intervention programmes.
