ukactive unveils candidates for Membership Council positions

ukactive today announced the shortlist of candidates who members will be able to vote for to elect its new Membership Council.

The Membership Council which will be chaired by former ukactive CEO and current Board member David Stalker, will be the formal voice of the membership base in ukactive governance, reporting to the Board, and take on challenging topics of substance for the sector, such as the on-going issues relating to skills and workforce development.

ukactive today announced Places for People Leisure Chief Executive Sandra Dodd as its new Treasurer.

Dodd will join the new ukactive Board, which is being chaired by crossbench Peer Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson. The Board has been built following a 12 month consultation with ukactive members and partners designed to ensure a governance structure that is fit for purpose and in line with best practice recommended by key agencies such as Sport England. ukactive has committed to having at least 25% of the Board female.

ukactive welcomes HSE view to stop gym inductions for experienced gym users

On Friday 15th of May the Health and Safety Executive website published their response on the perceived myth that experienced gym users are 'required' to undertake additional gym inductions if their gym is taken over by a new provider. The Myth Busters Challenge Panel provides a mechanism to independently challenge advice or decisions, made in the name of health and safety that are believed to be disproportionate or inaccurate.

23,000 Essex residents to be offered support to get active

Let's Get Moving, a proven service that supports people to be more physically active, is to be rolled out across West Essex GP surgeries in June, supporting up to 23,000 residents.

Essex County Council and Active Essex have confirmed this dynamic partnership with not-for-profit health body ukactive and physical activity experts to deliver behaviour change support over an initial three year period.
