Education Minister Responds to ukactive Kids Research in Parliamentary Speech

Earlier this week, MPs and Ministers in the House of Commons pledged to “look at every opportunity” to offer children the chance to be active beyond the traditional school day in response to ukactive Research.

On Monday afternoon, ukactive worked with Justin Tomlinson MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Sport, to highlight the harmful impact that inactive summer holidays can have on children’s health in a Parliamentary session on Education.

Female-driven ‘class culture’ transforming local leisure centres

Women are driving a major transformation of community leisure centres, with growing numbers swapping traditional activities like swimming for spin bikes and other group workouts, a landmark report has revealed.

The number of people visiting leisure centres for group exercise classes such as cardio and indoor cycling has risen by almost 30 per cent in the past two years, with almost two thirds of class participants female.

Strictly Come Dancing star Darcey Bussell will lead a mass-workout in Central London to kick-start National Fitness Day on 27th September.

The legendary ballerina will be joined at Paddington Recreation Ground by hundreds of participants for a 7:30am dance fitness session called ‘Wake up and Work out’, based on her DDMIX training concept.
