Lawrence Dallaglio leads a stellar cast of keynote speakers for ukactive National Summit 2017, which includes big-hitters from Government, health and physical activity.

Dallaglio, an England Rugby World Cup Winner and Founder of the youth sport charity Dallaglio RugbyWorks, will be joined at National Summit by another star from the world of sport in the shape of Olympic gold-medallist sprinter Darren Campbell.

Taking place at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in the heart of Westminster on Wednesday the 1st November, this year’s Summit will explore physical activity as the ‘golden thread’ running through the burning issues facing society – including health, education and social cohesion.

The agenda for the day is bolstered through a speaker line-up that includes major decision-makers within the halls of Westminster, with Sports Minister Tracey Crouch MP delivering a key-note speech analysing two years’ progress in the Government’s Strategy for Sport.

Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work Penny Mordaunt MP will also take to the lectern, speaking about how to make physical activity work for all, with a particular focus on disadvantaged communities.

Summit will see the meeting of the sharpest minds in physical activity, health and policy – all committed to driving forward the active agenda, with several exciting announcements expected to be unveiled.

The afternoon will open with John MacAvoy exploring through personal experience how physical activity can steer offenders away from crime. John will take attendees through his own inspiring story; a prolific armed robber who turned his life around after discovering a passion for physical activity. He is now a world-record holder for indoor rowing and a Nike-sponsored Iron Man athlete.

Summit 2017 – the leading political event in the physical activity calendar – will gather together more than 700 big-hitters from the worlds of government, health and physical activity, offering invaluable networking opportunities and a chance to engage on the biggest issues facing the worlds of politics and physical activity.

National Summit will also see the release of three landmark ukactive policy reports, which tie in closely with the event’s theme of physical activity as the ‘golden thread’. The reports will outline the physical activity sector’s increasing role in battling a range of societal issues; including supporting ageing populations, building more active communities, improving education levels and preventing crime.

ukactive CEO Steven Ward said: “The breadth and calibre of speakers at Summit 2017 underlines the primacy of physical activity across all aspects of our daily lives.

“Westminster’s QEII Centre will bring together titans of government, business, health and physical activity for an unrivalled day of insight, debate and networking.

“I expect this year’s Summit to have a significant bearing on the future direction of the physical activity sector, and indeed, UK society as a whole.”
