ukactive urges government shake-up of sedentary office culture

ukactive Chair Tanni Grey-Thompson appeared on international news network CNBC this morning (9th August) to urge the Government to tackle the ‘toxic’ toll of sedentary working cultures by incentivising employees to be active.

The legendary Paralympian and cross-bench peer noted that ‘physical inactivity costs the UK £20bn each year and is the cause of 37,000 premature deaths’ with desk-bound office culture fuelling the mounting inactivity crisis.

ukactive and Premier Sport research spotlights summer holiday health inequalities

A new study from the ukactive Research Institute alongside Premier Sport has found that school summer holidays are driving ‘a major class divide’ in children’s fitness levels, with the poorest children seeing fitness fall 18x faster than their more affluent counterparts.

The findings form the second part of a landmark study from ukactive and children’s activity provider Premier Sport into physical activity among eight and nine-year-olds.

School summer holidays are opening up a major class divide between the fitness levels of deprived children and their more affluent peers due to a lack of affordable physical activity offerings, new research from ukactive has revealed.

The findings – which were presented at the annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) in Germany last week (5th July) – show how the poorest 25 per cent of primary school children experience a drop in their fitness levels 18 times greater than the richest 25 per cent over the school summer holiday.

Physical activity sector stars celebrated at Flame Awards 2017

The leading lights of the physical activity sector were honoured last night (28 June) at a glittering awards ceremony in Telford’s International Conference Centre to cap off Flame 2017.  

The 15 winners of the most prestigious accolades in the physical activity sector overcame tough competition in each of their categories to go home with their gongs.

The ceremony - in front of an audience of more than 800 sector-leaders - concluded months of rigorous assessment for the hundreds of entrants. Several stages of evaluation took place to finally select winners, including customer insight surveys, mystery calls, visits and on-site customer interviews.

Not-for-profit health body ukactive has entered into a strategic partnership with bespoke workforce management supplier Shopworks to support the London-based firm’s expansion in the physical activity sector.

Shopworks provides a tailored staff-scheduling platform for retail, hospitality and leisure companies available as Software as a Service (SAAS). The firm, in operation since 2009, is quickly growing in the physical activity sector, offering services such as staff scheduling, compliance, budgeting and training to clients including 1Life, Halo and Educogym.
