Expanded National Fitness Day 2017 to hit high streets and workplaces

ukactive has today (19th May) kicked off the countdown to National Fitness Day 2017 with the launch of a major new consumer social media campaign and renewed focus on taking activity into schools, workplaces and high streets as part of the event’s ongoing expansion.

ukactive will work alongside two brand partners – major retailer Argos and leading health insurance brand AXA PPP healthcare – ensuring this year’s event is more wide-reaching than ever. Argos will seek to bring the power of physical activity on to high-streets by utilising its large network of UK stores. Meanwhile, AXA PPP healthcare will work with its huge array of corporate partners to take activity into workplaces, ensuring even more people can share in the fun and enjoyment of National Fitness Day.

ukactive today (12th May) unveiled some of the first speakers for the 2017 Flame Conference, which will take place on the 28th June at the International Conference Centre in Telford.

Among the stellar cast of keynote speakers is six-time Olympic gold medallist Jason Kenny – the joint most successful British Olympic athlete of all time. He will speak about the habits and decisions that breed success, and advise how the physical activity sector can collaborate with ex-Olympians and retiring athletes, utilising their unique skill-sets and experience to drive progress.

Not-for-profit health body ukactive has today (8 May) announced the elevation of Executive Director Steven Ward to the position of Chief Executive Officer.

ukactive Chair Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and the organisation’s Board have promoted Ward after being impressed by his vision and leadership over the past two years since the departure of former CEO David Stalker.

The Board concluded that Ward was the “ideal candidate” to drive and deliver ukactive’s ambitious strategy and were eager to secure the long-term services of a man who has played a central role in the physical activity agenda.

Leading lights in the physical activity sector revealed as finalists for revamped Flame 2017

ukactive today (27th April) unveiled the finalists for the Flame Awards 2017, which will see public, private and third sector heavyweights lock horns for the physical activity sector’s most prestigious accolades. 

Places for People Leisure lead the way amidst tough competition among local authority operators, with nine nominations in four categories, closely followed by Serco Leisure, Everyone Active, GLL and SIV with four nominations each.
