Lawrence Dallaglio leads a stellar cast of keynote speakers for ukactive National Summit 2017, which includes big-hitters from Government, health and physical activity.

Dallaglio, an England Rugby World Cup Winner and Founder of the youth sport charity Dallaglio RugbyWorks, will be joined at National Summit by another star from the world of sport in the shape of Olympic gold-medallist sprinter Darren Campbell.

National Fitness Day takes to TV screens to move the nation

National Fitness Day began with a bang this morning as Britain’s leading TV and Radio stations beamed ukactive’s live kick-off event to millions across the country.

BBC Breakfast and Sky News were broadcasting live from the London launch event, while BBC Radio 5 Live and Global Radio (the company behind Capital Radio, Radio X, LBC, Heart and many other stations) carried extensive features on National Fitness Day.

New research from ukactive on the extent of the UK’s physical inactivity crisis attracted a slew of news and broadcast headlines this morning, putting exercise firmly on the agenda ahead of National Fitness Day on Wednesday 27th September.

The story – based on research ukactive commissioned with ComRes – explored the barriers that stop people being active and found that Brits spend twice as much time on the toilet each week as they do exercising. Although a little crude, the news release proved a highly effective and media-friendly way of conveying our sector’s key messages around the importance of movement.

Inactive Brits spend twice as long on toilet per week as they do exercising

The average UK adult spends more than twice as much time sitting on the toilet as they do exercising, according to new research commissioned by not-for-profit health body ukactive ahead of National Fitness Day on 27th September. 

The study of 2,004 British adults by ComRes* reveals that British adults say they are on the loo for an average of 3 hours and 9 minutes each week, compared to just 1 hour and 30 minutes spent doing moderate exercise such as fast walking or riding a bike.

ukactive announces Official National Fitness Day Playlist to get the nation on their feet

ukactive has partnered with UK-based music licensing company PPL to launch the Official National Fitness Day 2017 Playlist – encouraging Britons to be active and put their best foot forward on Wednesday 27th September.

 

The playlist includes classics from The Jacksons and Run DMC as well as recent hits from the likes of Calvin Harris and Avicii, based on fitness sector music reporting data from PPL, the Official Music Partner for National Fitness Day.

CIMSPA funding an ‘investment in the sector’, says ukactive

ukactive has welcomed today’s announcement that Sport England has committed £1.2m to support the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity’s (CIMSPA) business plan to transform delivery of sport and activity services across the sector.

 

The Sport England investment covers a 21-month period and will enable CIMSPA to contribute to the workforce development goals of Sport England’s 2016 Towards an Active Nation strategy.

Education Minister Responds to ukactive Kids Research in Parliamentary Speech

Earlier this week, MPs and Ministers in the House of Commons pledged to “look at every opportunity” to offer children the chance to be active beyond the traditional school day in response to ukactive Research.

On Monday afternoon, ukactive worked with Justin Tomlinson MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Sport, to highlight the harmful impact that inactive summer holidays can have on children’s health in a Parliamentary session on Education.
