Asda Active Sports Leaders
Asda Active Sports Leaders Programme was a partnership delivered by ukactive, Sports Leaders UK, Asda and Spirit of 2012. Its mission was to equip more young people with life-skills by increasing the number of qualified Sports Leaders, whilst promoting the benefits of volunteering in the sports and physical activity sector.
The project built on Sports Leaders UK's existing programme to provide awards and qualifications in sports leadership, and aimed to promote volunteering hours amongst teenagers across local communities.
During the project in June 2015 we published the Leadership Insight Report alongside examples from the Asda Active Sports Leaders UK programme, the report studies a number of different case studies in order to examine the impacts of leadership training on three key outcomes in particular; employability, physical activity and health, and volunteering.
Investment from Spirit of 2012 and Asda on the Asda Active Sports Leaders programme led to a significant increase in the number of educational establishment's delivering Sports Leaders UK awards and qualifications, in the top 30% most deprived communities across the UK.
It has also led to teenagers being inspired to get others more physically active and more interested in getting involved in their local communities. This has been evidenced through the Institute for Volunteering Research survey results, and the positive work carried out to create a pathway to employment with local authority leisure provider SLM Everyone Active, which has seen nine young people successfully employed and retained across their East Midland leisure centres.

Delivered by Asda and ukactive, in partnership with Sport England, the aim of this programme was to help kids and their families discover and get involved in some of the great sports and fitness activities in their local area.
