National Governing Bodies
As part of our Memorandum of Understanding with Sport England, we have pledged to work with National Governing Bodies of Sport to support them to grow participation.
Eleven of the top twenty sports in the UK occur within a health club or leisure centre. So as the body with greatest levels of access to the operators of these facilities, we are working in partnership with National Governing Bodies to achieve our mutual goal of increasing participation levels.
ukactive has over 3,000 members, each of whom proactively contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of the nation. We want to get the most out of every activity and get more consumers doing physical activity, whether that is participating in a sport such as swimming at a leisure centre, or weight training at the health club or outdoor bootcamp - helping them achieve their goal of being match fit for the sport of their choice.
As part of the Shift into Sports programme, two options were available for TfL employees to take part in Cricket. Easy Cricket, a quick fun version of cricket that can be played almost anywhere, and Last Man Stands, a quick and rule-bending version of Twenty20 played by time-strapped cricketers all over the world. TFL employees enjoyed a one off promotion match at Regents Park with teams then going on to enter LMS London Shield.
We are currently working with the LTA to roll-out Cardio Tennis, an exciting group exercise workout in classes of 12-14 people, which doesn't need to take place on a tennis court - it can be held on badminton courts or even studios in your gym.
We are able to support National Governing Bodies with cutting edge insight into the trends impacting operators within the sector, research into what reaction they are likely to face from operators on their proposition, expertise to develop their proposition, networking opportunities with potential partners and project management services to drive the outcomes that they are looking for.
