ukactive has announced plans to form an Independent Operators Steering Group, designed to improve its offering to all members who run independent or low-number operator sites.

The group will be made up of organisations from different areas of the sector and will meet quarterly by video, to encourage operators from all over the UK to get involved.

The aims of the group will be to:

  • Represent the independent operators within the ukactive membership base, fostering a positive working relationship across the sector
  • Encourage collaboration across the independent landscape, to help deliver successful outcomes
  • Identify and discuss appropriate risks and escalate any risks or recommendations that could affect delivery to the independent sector channel
  • Provide visibility of wider conversations and relationships, and feed-in new ideas.

Steven Scales, Director of Client Services at ukactive said: “ukactive has been working hard with our members, and on behalf of our members, in talks with the Government about reopening the sector.

“As a membership organisation, the views of our members direct what we do, and that is why we are always looking for ways to make sure every part of our industry is heard.

“Through the Independent Operators Steering Group, we will strengthen our offering for all of the independent fitness operators out there, so if you are an independent gym then we would love to hear from you.”

ukactive is open to expressions of interests to join the Group. Please email maxlearoyd@ukactive.org.uk with a short expression of interest, outlining your company background, reasons for your interest, and thoughts on how you would like ukactive to support independent operators in the future. The closing date is 10 July 2020.
