To celebrate National Fitness Day 2025, a new blog series shares the success of ukactive members that have helped power the campaign. The series explores the benefits that getting involved in National Fitness Day can have for organisations and their communities.

In this blog, we hear from Gymbox’s Marketing Manager, Gabriella Macis, who explains why National Fitness Day is such an important tool to encourage newcomers to get active and join their community. Nicknamed the ‘antidote to boring gyms’, Gymbox are encouraging people to find a new way to exercise, and National Fitness Day is helping them do this.

Have you hosted a National Fitness Day event before? If so, what did you do?

Yes, Gymbox has supported National Fitness Day in the past with a mix of in-club activations and opportunities for the public to get involved. From free taster classes to throwing open our doors for first-time visits, we have used the day to show that at Gymbox, anything goes. It is about breaking away from the usual and proving that fitness does not have to be predictable or boring. This year it ties neatly into our campaign ‘Come check the ‘box’ which celebrates the different reasons people train, move, and push themselves.

How has National Fitness Day helped your business?

National Fitness Day gives us the chance to connect with people who might never have thought a gym was for them. When they step into Gymbox, they see straight away that we are not like other gyms. We are the antidote to boring workouts, with clubs that feel more like a night out than a workout. That atmosphere often leads to more people booking tours, trying classes, and eventually joining our community. For members, it is also a great moment to show off their gym to friends and be proud of the space they train in.

Why is it important for businesses and individuals to take part in National Fitness Day?

National Fitness Day is about breaking down barriers and showing people that fitness is for everyone. It creates an opportunity to educate the public on the benefits of movement, both for physical health and mental wellbeing.

The day is also important because it brings operators together to celebrate the power of physical activity, inspiring communities to live happier, healthier and more active lives. For individuals, it is an open invitation to try something new and see that fitness can fit into their lives in a way that feels right for them. There is still a large proportion of the UK population who are not members of a gym, and days like this are a powerful way to encourage new people to take that first step into fitness. Our campaign highlights exactly that: there is no single reason to train, and National Fitness Day is the perfect opportunity for more people to find their own.

What are you doing for National Fitness Day this year?

This year, Gymbox is giving members physical VIP access cards to invite friends who have never been to Gymbox before. On Wednesday 24 September, those friends can experience a full day in the club, from training on the gym floor to trying our one-of-a-kind classes. We also want people to discover our newly refurbished clubs, explore the wellness areas we have invested in, and take in the aesthetics and atmosphere that make our clubs such a unique place to train.

Gymbox is not just about the kit, it is about creating a vibe that inspires people to move. As front runners in innovation, we are always evolving what a gym experience can be, and National Fitness Day is the perfect stage to showcase that. It ties directly into our “Whatever your reason, come check the ’Box” campaign, giving both members and newcomers the chance to share their own reasons for working out while making it clear that everyone is welcome. It is our way of opening up our world to more people and proving that Gymbox really is the antidote to boring gyms.

National Fitness Day should be about connection and confidence, and at Gymbox, anything goes.
