David Stalker has been announced as the new Chair of ukactive today (6 October) and Melinda Nicci has joined the Board of Directors as its new Digital Lead.
David is a well-known and passionate leader within the physical activity sector and brings a wealth of industry knowledge and experience to the role.
With more than 35 years’ experience, he previously held the position of CEO of ukactive from 2008 to 2016 and also served as Chair of CIMSPA. During his career he has held senior executive positions across the sector, including as CEO of Myzone, President of EuropeActive and non-executive Director of Alliance Leisure.
The appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process led by the Nominations Committee, which attracted applicants with strong experience from a range of industries.
David joins on a three-year term, taking over from Katy Cox, who became Interim Chair following the departure of Mike Farrar in February. Katy will now resume her position as Treasurer of the Board.
Melinda Nicci has been appointed as a co-opted Board member and will act as Digital Lead, bringing specialist knowledge and experience of health technology and AI.
Melinda has extensive experience in executive positions across the health, fitness and wellness industries, having worked for more than 35 years with brands ranging from Virgin Active and LA Fitness, to Phillips and the Body Collective Group (Baby2Body) which she founded in 2015.
David and Melinda join the ukactive Board at an important time for the sector as ukactive supports the growth of its members through its Vision 2030 strategy.
The UK Health and Fitness Market Report 2025 shows a record 11.5 million people are now members of health and fitness clubs in the UK, with the sector responding to ever-growing demand as more people prioritise their physical and mental health.
