‘Active Bucks’ was a two-and-a-half-year programme developed and commissioned by Buckinghamshire County Council (BCC) that used a community engagement approach to get residents engaged in physical activity. Active Bucks looked to utilise the county’s existing partnerships while developing new partnerships to build upon the work being carried out.

This independent evaluation report draws together all relevant information from across the programme, from the initial engagement process to understand the needs of the residents through to delivery, sustainability, and return on investment. Mixed methods research and of data collection were used to demonstrate the impact of the Active Bucks programme on the residents of Buckinghamshire across physical activity, mental wellbeing, social cohesion, and programme sustainability. Learnings and recommendations provide discussion and guidance to inform the development and implementation of future community physical activity programmes.
