The ukactive Research Institute were the measurement and evaluation partners for the two phases of the Scottish Care Inspectorates Care…about physical activity’ (CAPA) programme, which ran from 2017 – 2020. The ‘Care…about physical activity’ (CAPA) programme was developed to support those working in the Scottish care system to make physical activity part of the daily life of individuals experiencing care. To evaluate the impact of the programme the ukactive Research Institute created a multi-tiered approach, which encompassed a broad range of research methods appropriate for a vulnerable population in a care setting, including in-depth focus groups, bespoke surveys, and physiological data collection. Data was collected for 12 months over two periods, and key deliverables included two end of programme reports, a mid-programme report and accompanying infographics. The reports highlight the positive ways in which movement was integrated into care settings, and positive changes to mental health and physiological outcomes in people experiencing care who took part.
